Overview SimSim is a mobile inventory management application designed to eliminate waste by tracking products with expiration dates. The core user loop is frictionless: scan a barcode to identify the product, point the camera at the printed expiry date for AI extraction, and receive automated alerts before the item expires.
The platform is built for businesses managing perishables, batches, or LOT-numbered stock—such as grocery stores, supplement shops, food banks, warehouses, and veterinary clinics. It offers a freemium model, cross-device team collaboration, and is currently live on Google Play (with iOS coming soon).
Key Features & Business Logic
Intelligent Expiry Scanning: Employs a robust, triple-path OCR system. It dynamically routes between Firebase AI (Gemini), direct Gemini Vision API, and an offline on-device Google ML Kit fallback, with expensive AI reads securely metered behind premium tiers.
Smart Barcode Lookup: Utilizes backend Edge Functions backed by a local cache and Open Food Facts integration. It also supports crowd-sourced product contributions to constantly expand its recognition database.
Multi-Branch & Team Management: Goes beyond simple shared inventories. The underlying database schema explicitly supports multi-branch operations, making it highly scalable for multi-location retail chains and regional warehouses.
Automated Alerting Engine: Features a dedicated digestion table and scheduled functions for multi-channel notifications (local device + Firebase push), allowing users to set custom, reliable alert timings.
Background Data Processing: Heavy tasks, such as bulk Excel imports and exports, are offloaded to dedicated backend worker functions rather than locking up the client device.
Global Readiness: Fully localized in English, Spanish, and Arabic, featuring dedicated Arabic fonts and explicitly engineered Right-to-Left (RTL) design support. Integrated with RevenueCat for seamless global subscription handling.
Technical Architecture The application is a highly iterated, production-grade system built on a modern stack:
Frontend: Flutter built strictly on Clean Architecture + BLoC, cleanly separated into domain, data, and presentation layers across 14 feature modules with consistent dependency injection.
Backend: Powered by Supabase (Postgres, Auth, Edge Functions, Storage) with Row Level Security, layered with Firebase for messaging and App Check.
Authentication: Supports Google, Apple, email, and guest modes.
Data Sync: Engineered with a streamlined "local-first" architecture. Data lives locally via Hive for immediate offline access, relying on a lightweight, watermark-based pull system to maintain live sync across team members.
