Studio Humelim is a small planting design practice based in Brooklyn, NY. At Humelim, they produce native-centered plantings that artfully create habitat for NYC’s local fauna.
Studio Humelim came to us looking for a visual identity package for a refreshed business. After having lived and done business in Massachusetts, they were returning to Brooklyn with a new name, and a new focus for the business. They needed an identity that would harmonize with their new business model of simple, native planting designs for modern urban gardens. They were looking for a logo, letterhead, title block, and graphics for a new website.
We worked closely with Studio Humelim owner and planting designer Laura to craft her perfect vision for the logo, which included an Art Deco style san serif typeface. The brand mark of simple overlapping circles convey the changing of the seasons, and the cycles of growth inherent in the plant world. Utilizing the same palette and stroke quality, we created a set of graphics to be used on Studio Humelim’s website. These images are born out of blind contour sketches of some of Laura’s favorite native plant species. Laura wanted the graphics to maintain a certain abstractness, which the blind contour technique lent itself very well to.
