In our daily life, we are in a habit of getting things done at the last minute. We let our leisure activities to happen when they are not supposed to. Feeding our panic monster enough to keep him dormant most of the time and when he wakes up we try to rush things which are needed to be done. Main reason behind this panic monster to become lively is nothing else than our own gratitude monkey(distractions). They always pop in our minds and we got distracted from actual work. To overcome this problem of being procrastinator and getting things done at the last minute we will apply two things.
EAT THAT FROG:
This sounds unappetizing and you will be like “are you crazy dude”. Apart from jokes “ EAT THAT FROG’’ is the best selling book of Brain Tracy telling ways to be more productive and stop procrastinating. Here the frogs symbolize your most challenging and valuable tasks that needed to be done at any cost yet you don’t pay enough heed to them which results in loss of a growth mindset.
Eat your ugliest frog first, if you can start your day by eating that ugliest frog, you’d have tackled the worst thing that day and can multiply you results.
POMODORO:
A Pomodoro is a time management method designed by Francesco Cirillo in early 1980’s.It uses a timer to breakdown work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, segregated by short breaks.
I myself have a habit of delaying my valuable tasks due to lack of focus and distractions. Its 18 August and i decided to follow this technique in order to eat my frogs in time. I decided to complete my whole project work by today’s night. I set the pomodoro timer to 25 minutes during my work and write down the distractions which comes in my mind during work.
So i started doing my work, it went smooth at the start and after 10 to 12 minutes passed, i got a pop up on my phone which was a message from a friend. i avoided it and started concentrating on my work and suddenly a noise came of my mom to do some home chores. My mind also came up with an idea of eating snacks while working.I avoided all the distractions and it was difficult initially but i practiced it a few more time.To a surprise, I get less distracted and i am taking 20 minutes less on average than the actual time in performing my work.
Your real competition is with your distractions.
I am thinking to carry on with this technique to become more productive.
