Qantas Joey Club Adventures

When I was 14 my first flight ever was a Qantas 747 from Sydney to Los Angeles. Somewhere over the Pacific a flight attendant pulled a few of us kids out of our seats and walked us up to the cockpit. Moonlit islands below. More stars than I knew existed above. Pilots doing 1,100 km/h, relaxed, chatting about their LA plans.
Astronauts call it the overview effect. I still think about it.
Thirty years later Qantas announced a flight so long the sun comes up twice. Sydney to London, nonstop. The whole campaign speaks to adults. But there's a seat on that flight nobody had written a story for: the smallest one.
That 14-year-old woke up.
Research surfaced the Joey Club: four characters Qantas printed in coloring books and left behind. A kangaroo, a koala, a galah, an emu. Simple shapes. Aesthetic but not rich.
What if they were beautiful and timeless?
The Craft
I rebuilt them the way an Italian luxury house would. Ten years working with factories in Italy taught me how fine objects carry awe: visible weave, embroidered eyes, seams that show the hand. Not mascots. Heirlooms.
The World
Then I built the rules before the shots. Light goes gold, colors stay true. The camera only moves when the story does. Nothing bad ever happens here. And scale is the whole trick: you have to feel small for the world to feel enormous. I was the small one once, standing in that cockpit. I kept looking for that feeling in every frame.
The Film
75 seconds. Four handcrafted travelers on their first big trip, cut to intercut with Qantas's own campaign film. Written, designed and produced end to end in-house.
The Point
One great moment, at the right age, builds loyalty nothing else can buy. Every brand has an asset like this in a drawer.
I find them, and I build them worlds.
