Product Description

A product that provides access to counselling sessions and activities designed to aid in coping with various mental health conditions. It is part of a suite of specialised apps, each focused on specific areas like depression and grief.

Project Description & Responsibilities

On this project I acted as the Lead UX Designer and Product Manager. I collaborate with the UI team to design a user-centred app.
My responsibilities included:
Discovery workshop with the client
Competitor analysis
User journey definition
Usability testing
Product / QA testing from product and design point of view

Understanding the Business & Users

In order to understand the users I conducted a discovery workshop where together with the stakeholders and counsellors we defined the users' pains, gains and jobs. The users’ needs were then prioritised from the most to the least significant to ensure a fit between the users’ needs and services offered by the product.
These were then translated into features which we prioritised together - this provided us with a set of requirements for the app.

Wireframes

The wireframes allowed me to define features in detail but also to communicate with the business and explain how the app will work. I used a lot of custom components to define the features, as many of the features we wouldn’t provide weren’t achievable by only using native components. This indeed took a bit more time to be implemented but it also allowed us to create a more welcoming experience by breaking away from the traditional ideas.

Getting Users' Input

I’ve tested a combination of sketches and wireframes with users struggling with their mental health. The goal for the testing was to understand if users trust the process of being matches with a counsellor, feel comfortable to provide sensitive information to a bot, and believe the activities in the app will provide enough support. Once the feedback from the users was gathered I collated all the information and prioritised it based on the severity of the issue and iterated on the wireframes based on their feedback.

The Final Solution

By launching a counselling app, the business wanted to move away from the traditional methods of getting mental health support. This is also translated into the look and feel of the app, which was carefully designed by the UI Designers on the team. I contributed a lot on the interaction and throughout the entire visual design phase I collaborated with the other designers.
