A Closer Look at Keith Urban's 2014 Pagani Huayra

Renowned country music singer and songwriter Keith Urban is not only known for his chart-topping hits but also for his love of cars. From a McLaren 12C to a Bugatti Veyron, Urban’s assortment of high-end cars proves that guitars and Grammys aren’t the only things he collects. Keith Urban spent his early days in Australia, playing local gigs and helping out at his father’s convenience store. His first car was a pickup truck, as most would come to expect from a country musician. However, things changed after moving to Nashville in the 1990’s and marrying Nicole Kidman. According to Urban, the actress grew his passion for cars. Urban tells Leno that he always admired “big lumbering cars” until he drove his wife’s BMW, and the rest is history. Owning a Pagani is considered a privilege. The Italian supercar manufacturer produced only 100 units of the Huayra coupe, as well as 100 roadsters, making it one of the most exclusive supercars in the world. The car officially debuted at the headquarters of Pirelli in Milan in February 2011 and was named “The Hypercar of the Year” by Top Gear magazine in 2012. By 2015, the Huayra had already completely sold out. The Huayra is the successor to the Pagani Zonda and is named after the Argentinian god of wind, continuing Pagani’s tradition of giving their cars Quechua names.

The AMG engine was specially designed at the request of Pagani to be equipped with smaller turbochargers, a different intercooler configuration, and reprogrammed ECU settings to reduce turbo lag and improve response. This particular Huayra has a 7-speed shiftable automatic transmission, as well as steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The Pagani Huayra has a single clutch, rather than a dual-clutch system like many of the competitors in its class, in order to reduce weight.

The car is designed with active aerodynamics in order to achieve minimal drag coefficient or maximum downforce, depending on what the situation calls for. The Huayra does so by raising or lowering the front suspension, and via four flaps placed at the rear and front of the car which are operated independently by the car’s ECU. The flaps can also act as an airbrake, counteracting the weight transfer to the front wheels and ensuring the car remains stable under heavy braking. The superb engineering is complemented by exquisite design, with its muscular rear haunches perfectly contrasting its gorgeous, swooping side mirrors, which were designed after a woman’s eyelash.

The Pagani Huayra’s interior is just as impressive. The contrasting beige and black interior works well with the carbon fiber. Notably, the knob in the middle of the leather seats adjusts the sitting position and is not a bidet, as Leno jokingly points out to Urban. The layout of the dashboard and toggle switches are just as striking and were inspired by aircraft design. The car also comes with a surround-sound audio system, which Urban’s hit, “For You,” probably sounds great on. Regardless of what you listen to, the four-time Grammy Award-winning star’s former supercar proves that country music isn’t all about pickup trucks.

Keith Urban’s Pagani Huayra comes with some unique features, including its custom ANRKY center-lock wheels. The Florida-based wheel manufacturer specifically designed these wheels for the Huayra and they are finished in a sleek glossy black. The wheels are center-locked, which is intended to provide better performance and stability by reducing the amount of rotational mass that additional lug nuts would bring. The custom wheels not only enhance the car’s performance, but also give it a unique and stylish look. However, supercar purists can relax, as the car does come with the set of its original factory wheels.

Additional features of this 2014 Pagani Huayra include full body paint protection film installed, as well as a full exterior ceramic coating and tinted windows.
