Many organisations are not short of content. They're short of a clear first conversation. The programme, services, archive, catalogue, workshops, opportunities, venue hire, access information and contact routes may all exist, but people don't always know which door to open.
The AI Visitor Guide is a grounded AI system that helps visitors navigate complex websites, catalogues, services, archives and bodies of work. It answers only from approved material, recommends one useful next step, and can send contextual enquiries to the team.
Not a generic chatbot
The guide is built around a curated corpus of approved material: pages, service descriptions, FAQs, project notes, event information, archive summaries, catalogue entries or carefully edited internal text.
It stays inside that material, asks clarifying questions where needed, and recommends one useful next place rather than overwhelming people with everything at once.
Who it's for
Any organisation where visitors arrive with half-formed questions and need help finding the right next step. Arts organisations, CICs, charities, festivals, creative venues, training providers, archives, catalogues, artist estates, specialist businesses and public-facing services.
You need this if people understand what you do only after a twenty-minute conversation.
The sprint
The build is a focused 8 to 10 day sprint:
Define who the guide is for, what it should know, what it must not claim, and what counts as a useful next step
Structure the corpus from existing material
Build the guide interface
Connect the model through a server-side proxy
Shape the behaviour with grounded prompting
Test the answers against real visitor questions
Set up contextual enquiry capture
Launch
The result is a working public guide, not a strategy document.
After launch
The guide runs on the client's own AI account, so usage is billed directly to them and stays under their control. A care plan keeps the corpus current as the programme changes, keeps the guide accurate and monitored, and sends a short monthly summary of what visitors actually asked.
Working example
The first version was built for my own site at tobygodden.com, where the work spans web systems, music, film, writing, AI fiction, browser instruments and interactive builds. Instead of forcing visitors to understand the whole map, the guide lets them ask why they're there and points them to one useful next place.
I will build grounded AI guides for organisations with complex websites, catalogues, services, archives or bodies of work. Not a chatbot. A guided front door.
