Building a global payments platform

Nium is a US-based cross-border payments platform powering payouts to 100+ currencies. Nium APIs help businesses move money across borders for use cases like payroll, vendor payments, creator payments, forex remittances etc.

I led MassPay, Nium’s flagship payout platform.

MassPay is API-first. $110Mn annual revenue (2023 est.).

I helped Nium with:

Expanding Currency Coverage & Reach: Built, managed integrations with payment partners (e.g. HDFC Bank, Kotak, Citi, JPMC, Visa, VietinBank, Ripple, SentBe etc.) to integrate local payment rails like IMPS, SWIFT, ACH, SEPA, PayNow, and FAST.

Improving AML & Compliance: Added new capabilities to InstaAML (in-house AML product) and WorldPay integration to support compliance teams with screening and transaction monitoring. Evaluated new partners – FeatureSpace, Beam.

Streamlining Customer Experience: Owned and improved the API and web interfaces used by customers and internal stakeholders, simplifying payment initiation and settlement tracking.

Leading a Scalable Future: Architected a comprehensive migration plan with the engineering counterpart for transitioning customers to a new, scalable platform without disrupting existing integrations.

Championing Customer Voice: Introduced and formalised product discovery practices within the product and engineering teams, fostering a culture of customer empathy and ensuring roadmaps are backed by evidence.
