Whatever you want to do in life, you are going to have to talk or interact with people. Here’s how to impress that one person you talk to.
People these days love having connections online. Sometimes though, we don't know how to act or what to do when it comes time to actually CONNECT, or land a job, or talk to a potential client.
Here are five skills that prove you could be the right person for whatever role you want to have.

Skill 1: Research

Having a good knowledge of who you are talking to is important. It’s great for starter conversations and job interviews.
It’s also going to be where you get follow-up questions for that position and learn a bit about the role before you land it.
“I saw on your website that this company travels a lot. What would a monthly travel schedule look like?”
Then they will excitedly talk to you about any extra additional trips or business opportunities you could make.
However what if you are working with a client and wanting to get hired?
On your Facebook I noticed…”
Oh nooo. The client has a serious problem. Time to strut your stuff about the niche you are in.
“I would recommend doing xxx in the future, but if you are interested we could go to Panera’s for lunch and chat more about it if you are still confused.”
Bingo. If the client agrees and is interested in YOUR fix to their problem, you have got one foot in the door for a potentially lifelong client.
Research not only opens conversations but keeps them going. Diving deeper into topics in person, rather than over the phone of online. Finding the root of a problem, and trying to fix it.

Skill 2: Dressing In

Well Kinda like blending in, like uniforms, wearing something that is obviously both appropriate and something that makes you look like you already are either working the job, or something that tells clients, “I’m reliable”.
Your look will be remembered.
If I was going to a construction site for a social media gig, I’d dress in work pants and a simple top. Maybe even a hat if it was hot outside.
Not only do I look the part, but others will see me as someone who isn’t there to bother them, but to actively engage and learn from them while doing the job of taking videos and photos.
I have been talked about behind my back a lot for being the outsider and trust me. Dressing in does help keep the opinions at bay.

Skill 3: Body Talk

Your body moves, and that is great! Except… when in a professional setting.
What is your body saying when talking to someone? I read once when your legs are pointed at a person that’s who you focused on. this theory hasn’t been proven wrong yet.
So, research your body language. How does the environment of working at that place make you feel? How does your body respond? Does it freeze, or does it fidget?
The best course of action is to obviously work on your professional talking points, and rehearse your body language. Do you talk with your hands? Do you speak clearly enough? Does your point come across as professional or fake through your body language?
When applying for a job you have to be 100% confident in yourself and your abilities to do the job WELL and true.
Teens often struggle with wanting money, but not wanting to work. this is why teens will often get in trouble for something while older employees won’t. their body language screams nervous or guilty while the older employees have learned that confidence gets you anywhere.
Also if older employees are blaming you… leave that place. seriously it’s not worth your career!

Skill 4: Time Management

Any job will need you to manage your time. Either it’s for scheduling or for tasks.
If you work freelance, this isn’t a suggestion but a job requirement now.
Knowing what’s on your plate before you say yes or no is key to getting the job.
Watch these responses to a question about their availability.
“Well we’ll see about next week, I’m booked but I will get you in if someone else cancels.”
Vs.
“Ma’am I am booked next week, but I am totally open the week after that, what time would you like me to come by?”
Not only is the second response the correct one, but this person sounds so delightful to be around. Making your customers feel at ease and keep the conversation open.

Skill 5: Empathy

Empathy can be taught, but most have to have this born into them for this to work.
If you are an empath, it’s a superpower.
It shows emotional intelligence and awareness that people have it hard sometimes and we can all rely on someone to help us with our problems. It’s also a well-used tactic for getting what we want as well.
Imagine you are a nanny.
This man calls you and rants about getting his kids to school on time and needing help and not wanting them to go on the bus because their kid's bully was on the same bus. So he needs a nanny.
instead of what some people’s response would be “Let them get over it” or “Have you tried doing xyz”
Sympathize with his situation, begin trying to work out the problem within the confinement of his emotions for his kids, and then offer your price, remember to always back this up with your reasoning, and your price guidelines. being relatable, empathetic, and taking action with a problem will 90% of the time get the results you want. which would be getting hired by a client or company.
