MedVerify — Reagent-Free Counterfeit Medicine Detection System
Counterfeit medicines are a silent crisis — the WHO estimates 1 in 10 medicines in low-to-middle income countries is substandard or falsified. MedVerify is a proposed embedded device designed to detect counterfeit medicines at the point of dispensing, without requiring any chemical reagents or lab infrastructure.
The core idea: use non-destructive sensing (spectral/optical analysis) to identify the physical signature of a genuine medicine and flag deviations — making verification accessible to pharmacists and healthcare workers in the field, not just labs.
Key design goals:
No reagents, no consumables — zero recurring cost after deployment
Compact, embedded hardware suitable for pharmacy counters
Fast result — decision in seconds, not hours
Low cost target to enable adoption in Tier 2/3 markets
The concept was selected and submitted to the IIT Innovation Challenge and MSME IDEATHON 6.0, validating the problem-solution fit at a national level.
Currently at concept and early prototype stage. Hardware implementation and clinical validation are the next phases.
