Overview

Every Cure uses AI/ML to identify opportunities for repurposing existing drugs to treat other diseases. Orchard is its analytical platform, helping medical researchers and global volunteers explore a matrix of more than 30 million drug–disease pairs.
Our work focused on making this complex research data accessible through a responsive interface, structured workflows, and reliable data interactions.

The challenge

Researchers needed to navigate large, multidimensional datasets without losing context as they searched, filtered, and compared information.
The platform also needed to support different user roles, collaborative validation, and reproducible research workflows—so users could return to a specific view or share it with colleagues.

The solution

We contributed to the Orchard ecosystem with advanced search, dynamic filtering, and data exploration workflows.
URL-driven state management preserves filters, sorting, and views, allowing researchers to share direct links to specific research contexts. Authentication and role-based access control support different user permissions, while onboarding, admin tools, and crowdsourced validation workflows help organize contributions.
The implementation also included optimized data flows, automated end-to-end testing, and API validation to improve reliability.

Key capabilities

Search and dynamic filtering across a 30M+ drug–disease matrix.
Shareable research views with URL-persisted filters and sorting.
Authentication and role-based access control.
Researcher and volunteer onboarding.
Administrative tools and crowdsourced validation workflows.
Automated end-to-end testing and API validation.

Outcome

Orchard provides a structured environment for exploring drug–disease relationships at scale. Researchers can navigate complex datasets, preserve their research context, and collaborate through shared views and validation workflows.

Technology

Next.js, TypeScript, Redux-Saga, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, NextAuth, Playwright.
