Marello — Coastal Kitchen & Bar

Brand Identity & Visual Direction

Marello is a contemporary coastal restaurant brand inspired by the warmth, texture, and understated beauty of seaside dining. The identity was created to feel refined without becoming formal — combining the relaxed character of the coast with the sophistication expected from a modern seafood kitchen and bar.
The core idea behind the project was to translate the feeling of fresh seafood, warm evenings, natural materials, ocean air, and shared dining into a visual language that feels distinctive, tactile, and memorable.
Rather than relying on predictable nautical symbols or bright ocean blues, the brand takes a warmer and more mature approach to coastal design. A palette of deep olive green, burnt terracotta, and warm ivory gives Marello an earthy Mediterranean character while creating a strong connection to food, nature, ceramics, stone, herbs, fire, and the coastal landscape.
The result is an identity that feels both rustic and elevated — relaxed enough for a seaside kitchen, yet sophisticated enough for an intimate dining experience.

The Brand Concept

Marello was imagined around three simple ideas:
Seafood. Seasonal. Good Company.
These words define more than the menu; they communicate the atmosphere of the brand.
Marello is intended to feel like a place where fresh ingredients, thoughtful cooking, drinks, and conversation come together naturally. The branding therefore avoids looking overly corporate or polished. Instead, it embraces subtle imperfections, organic textures, and expressive details that make the identity feel human.
The visual system draws inspiration from the movement of waves, weathered coastal surfaces, fishing culture, handmade printmaking, painted restaurant signs, and traditional seafood illustrations.
At the same time, the design is kept minimal enough to work within a contemporary hospitality environment.
The staff apron application continues the restaurant's material-driven aesthetic.
Rather than creating apparel that feels like conventional corporate uniforms, the dark natural fabric, leather detailing, handwritten logo, and terracotta texture create something closer to artisan hospitality wear.
It connects the people working within the restaurant to the surrounding visual identity while maintaining a practical, understated appearance.
The menu system was designed around contrast.
A bold dark-green cover carries the Marello wordmark surrounded by the expressive terracotta texture, creating immediate visual recognition.
Inside, the design becomes calmer and more functional.
Warm ivory pages, restrained typography, generous spacing, and clear categories allow dishes and prices to remain easy to navigate while maintaining the premium atmosphere of the brand.
This balance between an expressive exterior and a minimal interior reflects Marello itself: visually memorable, but never overwhelming the food or dining experience.
The objective was not simply to create an attractive restaurant logo.
The goal was to establish a recognizable visual world that could grow with Marello across physical spaces, print materials, packaging, uniforms, menus, digital communication, and future hospitality experiences.
Every element was designed to support the same central idea:
a contemporary coastal restaurant rooted in fresh food, natural textures, warm hospitality, and good company.
The combination of expressive typography, earthy colors, handcrafted textures, minimal layouts, seafood imagery, and atmospheric photography gives Marello a distinctive presence while remaining flexible enough for real-world restaurant applications.
Ultimately, Marello is a celebration of coastal dining without the clichés.
