"[...] SAGA urges the NKHS administration to commit to expanding and further developing gender neutral bathroom and changing room options, as well helping non-binary and transgender students feel safer in these environments, and as a member of the community as a whole. [...] Increasing inclusivity and creating space for trans and non-binary students to exist comfortably and safely is a priority that we at SAGA believe should always take precedence."

SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance Club) was forced to take action after suffering through years of just one gender neutral bathroom for a school of 1300+. The lack of adequate gender neutral facilities was causing all sorts of problems, not just for non-binary students, but for the entire school community.

I teamed up with the at-the-time SAGA President to write a letter to the district admins demonstrating why and how the lack of facilities was an issue, and urging them to develop more in the future. We conducted research into other schools with similar populations and were able to compare and contrast our school and other facilities.

About a week after the letter was sent in (May 2024), a new gender neutral bathroom was opened up. It was not a solution to the problems, but a temporary fix - the good news being that the administration understood this too, and committed to even more next school year (2024-2025). The success of the letter greatly benefitted my run for SAGA President, and I ended up winning the election for the next year.
