My head was going to explode with the effort of holding my breath. I knew it was useless, but I couldn’t give up on living, and finally, when I could not bear it any longer, I let go. The water filled my mouth and lungs as I breathed, but it wasn’t scary; actually, it felt quite peaceful. I felt my entire body becoming light, floating in water, and then, with a final thought of my mother, I walked into the light.
