End-to-end mobile app design transforms an ambitious vision for a travel app into a launch-ready MVP

Project Type: Mobile Application (iOS & Android MVP) Client: Zormor Industry: Travel tech Duration: 3 months Role: Product Designer (Contract) Focus: Product Strategy, UX/UI Design, Design System
Zormor envisioned a next-generation travel app where people could discover places, join local experiences, plan trips, and connect with fellow travelers in one platform. Bringing all these ideas together in a simple way that wouldn't overwhelm the users was one of the main design challenges.
Working closely with the founders, I transformed the product vision into a friendly mobile experience that covered the complete MVP end-to-end. I did this by defining the user flows, establishing design principles, and designing every core feature required.
Travelers today rely on multiple apps throughout a single trip. One for maps, another for recommendations, another for planning itineraries, and often social media or messaging apps to discover experiences and connect with people. This fragmented experience makes discovering destinations, organizing trips, and meeting like-minded people difficult.
Zormor wanted to rethink this experience by bringing discovery, planning, and community into one mobile platform. The challenge wasn’t simply putting together a bunch of features. It was designing an intuitive product that made a set of interconnected tools feel easy to use while achieving the goal of making every trip an unforgettable experience.
Goals
• Turn a complex vision into a simple experience. • Encourage discovery and social interaction. • Make planning and exploring feel effortless. • Create a cohesive experience across every feature. • Establish a scalable foundation for future growth.
Design Approach
To shape the product experience, I started by identifying the target user groups and the challenges they faced with existing travel apps. I noticed, both travelers and locals shared common frustrations around discovering authentic experiences, planning trips, finding relevant recommendations, and connecting with like-minded people. These insights helped prioritize the product’s features and informed every design decision throughout the project.
Based on this, I defined three core design principles that guided the entire experience:
• Inspiration: Spark curiosity and encourage users to discover new places, experiences, and people beyond the typical tourist path.
• Connection: Make social interaction a natural part of the journey by helping travelers connect, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships.
• Trustworthiness: Give users the confidence to make travel decisions through reliable information, community insights, and transparent social proof.
How can we inspire users to explore beyond the typical tourist path?
Trying to solve this led me to design a discovery-first experience where users are constantly exposed to new places, experiences, and people. Personalized recommendations, travel guides, content from other travelers, and an interactive map work together to make discovering hidden gems feel natural instead of something users have to actively search for.
How can we make meeting new people a natural part of traveling?
Asking this led me to make social interaction a core part of the product rather than a separate feature. Users could discover nearby travelers, join shared experiences, exchange messages, follow each other’s journeys, and collaborate on itineraries, making it easier to connect with people who shared similar interests.
How can we help users make confident travel decisions?
Community-generated travel guides, reviews, and content from other travelers help users make decisions with more confidence. Points of interest, event, and experience pages, together with attendee lists and reviews, provide the context users need to choose where to go and what to do.
By the end of the project, the team had everything they needed to build and launch the first version of the product.
• Solid value proposition and feature set • Scalable design system • Launch-ready MVP with complete user flows
