THE NEED

As part of my capstone project, I embarked on a transformative journey to develop a web application aimed at fostering a symbiotic relationship between local farmers and digital freelancers. The primary objective was to provide both groups with time freedom, specialized support, and sustainability while bridging a community gap through shared needs and desires. The web application served as a platform connecting ten local Chattanooga farms with ten freelancers in a beta-test, creating a space where they could engage in a value exchange of goods and services that enriched their quality of life.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The profound impact of this web development application was evident on multiple fronts. For farmers, it relieved the burden of unmet needs resulting from their focus on the physically demanding labor demands of their farms. In turn, this allowed them to explore new opportunities and achieve greater productivity. On the other hand, freelancers benefited from access to healthy foods and farm goods, replacing the less favorable option of fast food that negatively impacted their job performance. The resulting win-win scenario exemplified how technology can play a pivotal role in enhancing lives, offering time freedom, reducing stress, and contributing to overall well-being while fostering a community spirit.

THE SOLUTION

The web application I designed exemplifies how the harmonious collaboration between technology and human needs can lead to transformative experiences for farmers and freelancers alike, making a stronger case for human-centered design. Through diligent planning, thoughtful user experience design, and strategic implementation, the application has emerged as a powerful tool in fostering sustainability. Throughout, the project was amplified by well-designed user stories, user flow, wire frames, mockups and moodboard.

THE PROCESS

Trace back any good web development design and behind it is an agile process. As part of my developer certification, I served as product owner for my cohort for the second half of the term. Strategy, time management and agile process helped me manage the project and complete it successfully or more importantly, to pivot throughout the process as needed.
