As a Black Studies graduate and long-term community activist, I was selected as a panelist for Before the Dream: Discovering the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. event hosted by Portland Community College. The goal was to provide insights into Dr. King's legacy and its impact on our community.

The project involved participating in a panel discussion alongside local legends, lifetime activists, scholars, and fellow young activists. We all shared our experiences and perspectives on Dr. King's legacy, civil rights activism, and social justice issues. The challenges faced during this project were minimal as everyone involved was well-prepared and passionate about their contributions.

The event proved to be a tremendous success with positive feedback from the college, organization, audience, and sponsors alike. Our engaging panel discussion captivated the audience throughout the day-long event from morning to evening. Being able to inspire others with my knowledge and experiences was incredibly fulfilling.

Being part of Before the Dream: Discovering the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., allowed me to showcase my expertise in Black Studies while contributing to an essential conversation about civil rights activism in our community. Engaging with other activists and inspiring audiences left me feeling accomplished in promoting social change.
