Tamarillo - Seraphin Album Artwork

Art Direction, Illustration and Design by Mario Nevado for German progressive/art rock band Tamarillo’s debut album ‘Seraphim’, released by GEMA.

The client needed an iconic seraph illustration (an angelic being, regarded in traditional Christian angelology as belonging to the highest order of the ninefold celestial hierarchy, associated with light, ardour, and purity) for their cover, but without the Christian symbology. We decided to have a more accurate and menacing representation according to ancient writings instead of creating a winged human in the sky.

For that purpose, all the wings were created in 3D using DAZ Studio and assembled in Adobe Photoshop with several photographs and painted elements using matte painting techniques. The resulting layout was also created in Adobe Photoshop alongside merchandise designs and promotional materials for the album release. Logo design provided by the band.
