By Any Means Necessary

By Any Means Necessary dives deep into stories of fourteen Iraq veterans who committed torture and even murder. Drastic hazing punishments desensitized these soldiers to the extent that they soon had no problem inflicting such abuse on Iraqis. With implied authorization from superiors, some of them moved from replicating the hazing they experienced to torture and murder. I worked with author John Tsukayama, PhD, to develop this book and edited the manuscript. His research on the use of torture and other atrocities in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism reflects his longstanding interest in the use of state power and what makes political violence attractive and viable.

We’ve always viewed veterans as patriots who defend our nation. Few people know of the numerous abusive acts our soldiers have been compelled to take part in.
