Attached devices Firmware Update optimization

Joseph Winn

Scope and Objective

Client reached out with design goal of reducing system down-time incurred from system controller driven update process of transmitting updated firmware packages to attached device nodes.

Actions

Following review of client provided information and existing implementation, a scope of work was drafted to outline mutually agreed upon expectations and deliverables to support client design needs of reduced firmware process time while maintaining a robust and fail-resistant operation.
Scope of Work Firmware development commenced on client provided base project with communicated status updates as work progressed.

Measurable Results

Collaboration with client for ~40 project hours yielded electronic delivery of updated firmware project functioning on client platform demonstrating a ~21% device nodes firmware update process time improvement by implementing concurrent parallel operations where practical and applicable, while maintaining and adding error handling and retry conditions.
