About the project.

This project involved a comprehensive process that included modeling, texturing, and animation. The entire project was completed over a span of approximately 5hours. Based on this timeframe, the estimated cost for a similar project would be around $250.

Objective

The goal of this project was to create a visually engaging animated background for personal use. I wanted to explore the capabilities of Spline, a 3D design and animation tool, while creating a dynamic and modern background that could be used in digital presentations, websites, or personal portfolios. The focus was on creating a metallic material with realistic reflections and animating it in a way that felt smooth and professional.

Process

1. Conceptualization and Planning

Inspiration: I began by researching various design styles and animations to gather inspiration. I was particularly drawn to sleek, futuristic designs with metallic elements and subtle animations that added depth without being overwhelming.
Material Selection: I decided to focus on creating a metallic material because of its reflective properties, which could add a dynamic and polished look to the background. I wanted the material to feel realistic but also adaptable to different color schemes.

2. Design and Development

Material Creation:
I started by designing a metallic material in Spline. I experimented with reflections and lighting to achieve a shiny, reflective surface. Initially, I used colored reflections to add some vibrancy, but I later adjusted the saturation to zero to create a more traditional metallic look. This gave the material a clean, industrial feel.
I played around with the roughness and specular settings to fine-tune how light interacted with the surface, ensuring it looked realistic without being overly glossy.
3D Modeling:
Using Spline, I created simple geometric shapes that would serve as the foundation for the background. I wanted the design to feel modern and minimalistic, so I focused on clean lines and balanced compositions.
I experimented with layering the shapes to create depth, ensuring that the background felt dynamic even before animation was added.

3. Animation

Animation Techniques:
The animation process was where the background truly came to life. I used Spline’s animation tools to create smooth, looping movements. For example, I animated the geometric shapes to rotate slowly and move subtly in 3D space, creating a sense of motion without being distracting.
I also experimented with easing functions to ensure the animations felt natural and fluid. This was particularly important for maintaining a professional look.

Conclusion

This personal project was a rewarding experience that allowed me to experiment with 3D design and animation in a practical way. The final animated background not only met my initial goals but also provided a valuable learning experience that I can apply to future projects. I’m excited to continue exploring the possibilities of 3D design and animation, and I look forward to using this background in my personal digital projects.
