Custom React Site for an LA Painter — Ranks First on Google for Her Name
Amy MacKay is a contemporary painter based in Los Angeles, represented by la Beast Gallery. Her work has been shown at NADA Miami, NADA New York, Felix Art Fair, Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York, and the Honolulu Museum of Art, and covered by Artsy, The Art Newspaper, and ArtNews.
She was using a self-built site on Cargo. It looked dated, had no structured data, and no links connecting her CV entries to the press written about her online. People had told her they couldn't find her site. For an artist at her career stage, the site was working against her.
What I Built
A custom site where the art is the interface. The design is minimal. No competing elements, no visual noise. Images load with animated reveals, sequenced so the work arrives with pacing and presence. Buttons and navigation have subtle micro-animations. Dark mode is built in. Every screen, every size.
Sanity.io Content Management System for independent updates. Amy can add new work, update her CV after a show, and change her statement without a developer. The site was built for handover. She operates it on her own.
Built for Search and AI. Most artist websites are not built for search engines and AI tools to read them well. An art portfolio site is almost entirely images — there's very little text for search engines to index. I built structured identity data so search engines and AI tools can identify her name, medium, location, exhibitions, and gallery representation. I cross-referenced her CV entries with links to the published articles and reviews written about her, establishing authority through real external connections. Indexing and crawl configuration tells search engines which pages to read and how often to check for updates.
The result: "Amy MacKay" ranks #1 on Google — just her name, no qualifiers. Ask ChatGPT about Amy MacKay and it returns the correct bio, exhibitions, and gallery. For an artist whose name is commonly misspelled, this matters.
"Amy MacKay" ranks #1 on Google, "Amy MacKey" too!
Portfolio site for a fine artist. The art leads, everything else supports. CMS for independent updates, AI-optimized SEO, and full handover. Built to be found.
