Retention & deflection of high temperatures from the turbo will aid engine performance. This is especially true near heat-soak prone parts such as an Intercooler. Keeping intake air cool is critical to performance capabilities.
STEP 1
I created a template system of the final product from cardboard as a test fitment
STEP 2
Using my self-taught TIG welding skills, I was able to fabricate an all aluminum, double wall heat shield. Fundamental heat transfer ideas were used in my design decisions
Hot/Cold sides of the turbine were split
Air channel between turbo and Inter-cooler to facilitate airflow and heat dissipation
STEP 3
After many test trials and re-work, the heat shield fit into the car
