Overview 🔎
As a long-time user both as a listener and creator, I have enjoyed what Soundcloud has offered the music community and its strides in boosting the careers of small artists. Despite the culture of small artists and unique fan communities being the platform's foundation, Soundcloud's design language has remained untouched over the decade. In a climate where users are conscious of the UI and UX of web and mobile applications, I was inspired to take on the challenge of redesigning the Soundcloud App with users and artists alike in mind.
Problem & Solution 🤝
Question - How can redesigning Soundcloud's mobile app boost the UX of both listeners and artists/creators? Solution - Bring artist aesthetics closer to listeners; Give artists/creators more tools to build their community and make interactions with fans
Goals/Requirements: Add some goals or requirements that helped get this project to the finish line. • Make Home Page more inviting • Give artists more tools for insights • Smoothen look and feel
Process 🛣
I began this redesign project by studying the Soundcloud app from the perspective of both a listener and a creator. After making notes on the design and UX of the app, I began creating a user survey with two tracks, one for creators and another for listeners. Differentiating these two perspectives allowed me to gain user feedback from the two different personas. Collecting this data is crucial to creating the redesigned prototype.
Results 🎁
The results from this project were very positive. By following a design process and going through each step in user research, I was able to translate the survey finding and data to the redesign of the Soundcloud prototype.
Takeaways 📣
This project was a great exercise in learning deeply about the design process and the importance of user research. Being that this project was on a small scale, in the future I will look to increase the time spent on user research as well as the usability of the prototype.
