Background

Mesh is a fashion-tech startup aiming to combat overconsumption the fashion industry by creating sustainable modular pieces that consumers can DIY to create their own accessories.

As a product design intern, I 3D modeled each modular piece and conducted user analysis focusing on key differentiators in sustainable consumer behavior to ensure Mesh remains at the forefront of eco-friendly fashion.

The Problem

Mesh offers various DIY modular kits, allowing users to tailor their accessories by choosing from a variety of modular components. This customization feature gives users the flexibility to mix and match shapes according to their preferences. However, this customization freedom poses a potential challenge on Mesh's website, where images alone make it difficult for users to gauge critical details, especially size.
This gap in understanding poses a potential risk, leading to challenges such as returns and customer dissatisfaction. Bridging this informational divide is crucial to ensuring a seamless and satisfying user experience.

Potential Solution

The integration of 3D modeling stands as a potential strategy in overcoming size ambiguity challenges on the website. This approach provides users with a comprehensive, three-dimensional view of each modular piece, offering a dynamic exploration of how components interact. By allowing users to have a hands-on interaction, 3D modeling has the potential to transform the Mesh experience by allowing the customer to make control of their customization and creation journey.

Consumer Analysis

The consumer analysis for Mesh shows a market eager for sustainable and personalized fashion experiences and the willingness to pay for these experiences over the typical fast fashion counterparts. With a target audience of environmentally conscious millennials and Gen Z, I delved into the psyche behind consumer behavior especially in height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The data-driven insights guide possible focus areas in which Mesh can leverage to increase awareness and sales.
