I was laid off earlier this year. I was called into a Zoom call one morning, bright and early. The sky shone just right, not a single cloud in the sky. There was no way I could've known what would happen next. Thirty minutes later, my dreams had been crushed. The skies did not turn gray, however. The sun did not set, the birds did not stop their signing outside my window and oxygen continued to fill my lungs. How could I move past something that felt so soul-crushing?
