Helping you understand your spending patterns

The reframe that decided everything

There's a recurring pattern among Nigerian professionals, they earn consistently and still can't explain where the money went. Most banking apps give you transaction logs, debit alerts, basic balances. None of that is context, none of it is a pattern, none of it is insight. Users are left to manually piece their own financial behaviour together across two or three apps. That distinction reframed the whole problem, these people are not irresponsible with money, they're operating without visibility.
"I'm not bad with money. I'm just blind to it."
That line came out of interviews with Nigerian professionals earning between 250k and 600k monthly. Most underestimated their own spending by two times or more, spending was fragmented across accounts, and budgeting tools kept getting abandoned for feeling like friction, or like they were built for someone else's financial life.
What I tried first, and dropped
I explored the obvious fintech directions first, budgeting tools, spending scores, alerts and notifications. All of it introduced friction, or worse, felt controlling. So I shifted the whole framing, Sabi shouldn't tell users what to do, it should help them see clearly.
The Mirror Principle
Reflect, don't judge. Most financial apps score behaviour, flag "bad" spending, push corrective actions. Sabi shows patterns, provides context, and leaves the decision with the user. No red for overspending unless the user set that budget themselves. No scoring. No prescriptive language anywhere in the product.
Designed for the multi-account reality
Nigerian professionals bank across multiple accounts by default, so the product aggregates all of them into a single view instead of asking the user to hold the total in their head. The Home screen answers one question, where do I stand right now, without making anyone navigate to find out.
Not a budgeting tool, not a financial advisor
It's a product built to solve a simpler, more fundamental problem, helping people finally understand their own money.
