Overview:
For this submission, I wanted to create an inspiring conceptual video around competition and the human will to succeed. Using only dynamic editing of stock footage, I aimed to showcase my editorial skills in conveying emotion and narrative.
The Premise:
The video explores the competitive spirit and intense commitment required to achieve success. A classic muscle car serves as a metaphor for the forward momentum required to make it in football. Lightning and fire represent the explosive energy and relentless passion needed to excel. Quick cuts, slow motion, and metaphorical visuals come together to reflect the struggles and triumphs in accomplishing a goal.
Approach:
I leveraged Filmsupply's extensive stock library to find emotive clips to heighten the theme. Drawing on the Musicbed catalogue, I chose an upbeat, anthemic soundtrack to complement the visuals. My editing combines contrasting footage through rhythmic pacing, aligned to the music's intensity and final drop.
The result is an abstract representation of competition created completely through stock elements. Different images collide to build a sense of drive and urgency. Macro shots of eyes cut to lightning and flames to imply focus and intensity. The edit builds momentum by intercutting visceral sports moments with emotive nature landscapes.
The Musicbed soundtrack builds energy throughout, aligned to the footage's rhythmic editing. Diverse images collide to build momentum and urgency in pursuit of victory.
Outcome:
This conceptual project challenged me to convey a clear theme through stock footage alone. The result is a compelling look at competitive spirit created purely through editing choices. I'm excited by this demonstration of my signature editorial style and ability to craft impactful narratives, even without original footage.
Oh and because I was unaware of the competition I actually came up with the concept, created the metaphor and edited the footage in under 24 hours.
