Noelle’s New Bike

Project Overview

Noelle’s New Bike is a playful short inspired by the charm of vintage French cinema — soft light, poetic framing, and just a hint of absurdity. Starring my good friend Noelle, the film captures the simple joy and nostalgia of a carefree afternoon ride. I even attempted a bit of French dialogue (not perfect, but I tried).

My Role

I wrote, directed, shot, and edited the film, focusing on storytelling through composition and pacing. It was shot on my Panasonic Lumix G7 with Rokinon lenses and a Metabones speed booster, and edited in Final Cut Pro. While I didn’t compose the score for this project, I carefully selected royalty-free music to complement the light, cinematic tone.

Creative Approach

This short was an exercise in style — studying how early French filmmakers played with rhythm, gesture, and atmosphere to create emotion from simplicity. My goal was to emulate that same sense of spontaneity and quiet beauty, using natural light and handheld movement to give the piece a timeless, lived-in feel.

Tools Used
