Can AI actually understand your rough sketches? ChatGPT recently added a new sketch feature to its Images 2.5 model, so I decided to put it to the test. I used extremely simple, rough sketches along with short prompts to see whether AI could actually understand the pose, composition, and overall idea I had in mind. And honestly… I’m impressed. What I like most is how useful this could be when you already have a specific pose or composition in your head but don’t want to spend hours creating a polished design from scratch. The Great Wave becomes a bridge between two eras: above the water, a floating Japanese civilization has adapted to centuries of rising oceans, while beneath the surface, remnants of the old world have become an underwater archaeological landscape. I wanted to preserve Hokusai’s recognizable composition, rhythm and blue-and-cream visual language while imagining how humanity might adapt to a changing relationship with the ocean.
