Somehow, every time autumn in Berlin rolls around, I'm astonished - the colours seem like they couldn't get any brighter.
I live between the city and a wonderful forest called Wuhlheide, where I often walk during long lunch breaks to get away from the screen.
The forest is a place where I can process my thoughts, generate creative ideas and submerge myself in the changing seasons.
Since that magical first autumn in Berlin, this underrated season has earned a special place in my heart.

Ah, the joys of autumn...
crisp air, golden leaves, and absolutely NO chance of getting that squirrel photo.
This just-for-fun animation is based on my personal experience. When I try to catch a red squirrel (or a woodpecker) on camera, they always move around the tree 😅
I drew the animation in Photoshop and put it all together in After Effects.

Here’s something I drew last month. Should I animate it too?
A friend from Impact Hub Berlin sent me a call out by Fine Acts, seeking illustrations on the topic of how the climate crisis disproportionately impacts women and girls. Reading about the multitude of knock-on effects of climate issues, I was inspired to make this illustration and submit it.
According to the UN, when heatwaves, floods, storms, or prolonged environmental stress occur, the additional work required to cope most
often falls on women (https://www.unwomen.org/en/digital-library/publications/2023/11/working-paper-the-climate-care-nexus-addressing-the-linkages-between-climate-change-and-womens-and-girls-unpaid-care-domestic-and-communal-work).
In my drawing, the mother figure of the household is trying to keep her family home intact. The flood is already here, but there’s also a storm approaching, so the future is uncertain. Who knows how long she can hold on? Her dependents in the house don’t appear to notice the great burden she has to bear.

I'm just loving strawberry season, which is kind of a big deal here in Germany!
On the theme of a modern utopia, Mara Drozdova (https://maradrozdova.carbonmade.com/) created an amazing series of illustrations about guerrilla gardening and I was lucky to animate this one. This cheeky urban gardener is sneakily gobbling one of the strawberries she’s just harvested. To try to maintain the shapes in Mara’s design and stay on-model, I created guide shapes in After Effects, before drawing the outlines in Animate. I then took it back into AE for the final details.
