Agoré — Building a Social Platform from the Ground Up Overview: Agoré is an independent social platform built around people, content, and communication. The vision is to bring public conversations, social connections, content discovery, and private communication into one connected experience, with a global audience in mind. I started building Agoré to turn that vision into a real web product rather than leave it as an idea. The Work: As the product builder and full-stack developer, I worked on the application architecture, user-facing experiences, and backend integration. The product's core areas include: • Profiles and social connections: User identity, profiles, and following. • Content and engagement: Posts, replies, reactions, and reposts • Messaging: Private conversations and group communication. • Discovery: Exploring people and public content. • Notifications: In-app activity and web-push notification capabilities. • Privacy and safety: Account controls, privacy settings, and reporting workflows. These areas represent Agoré's product scope; implementation completeness and production readiness vary by feature Engineering Approach: Agoré uses a modern web stack built around Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, with Supabase supporting authentication, database access, and related backend services. My focus has been to bring the product's different parts together into a coherent experience while keeping the underlying application maintainable. Building a social platform also means thinking beyond the interface. Authentication, authorization, data access, privacy, and abuse prevention are important parts of the engineering work. Challenges and Learning: One of the central challenges of building a social platform is that its features cannot be treated as isolated components. Profiles connect to social relationships. Posts connect to engagement and discovery. Messaging requires appropriate access controls. Notifications need to reflect relevant activity. Working through these relationships has been part of developing my understanding of full-stack engineering and product architecture. Current Status: Agoré is an ongoing independent product project. The application continues to evolve as features, reliability, security, and the overall experience are refined. Explore Agoré: Visit the live project: https://agore.vercel.app
