make a tape, seal it, and send it into the void.
The stuff I love has always had limitations. Before ProTools or Logic Pro, a band could only record as much tape as they had in the room. And when you made someone a mixtape, you got 45 minutes a side, that was it. The limit was the craft. You chose.
tape trade puts that limit back. It's a cassette mixtape maker: fill both sides with songs, could be your favorites or guilty pleasures (hey, I’m not here to judge!) but just like a real cassette, a side only holds 45 minutes, so you can't add everything. You make the cover too, not upload a photo, build it from a kit of dithered, hand cut zine stickers: ransom letters, halftone eyes and hands, a tangle of spilled tape. Name it, add a note if you want and seal it. Sealing drops it into the Collection, a public wall of strangers' tapes you can dig through and play.
Same 45 minutes, same stickers available for everyone so the only thing that makes your tape yours is you.
I designed everything in Figma, then built the live app in Figma Make: the song search, the drag and drop cover maker, the cassette sliding into its sleeve, and the Collection, a public wall powered by Supabase so every sealed tape is saved and shared with everyone. Every sticker was made in Weave in one black and ivory riso style, so it all looks like it came off the same photocopier. The 45 minute limit is real because the song data is real.
made for the Contra x Figma Config Makeathon. built with @figma Make + Weave.

🔤 🖋️ Typeface Design: Op-ed
Inspired by the typography that defined 70s and 80s newspapers and magazines, Op-ed is a semi-condensed serif typeface with curved serifs and nostalgic charm. Its rounded, sculptural details bring a dynamic energy reminiscent of bold editorial design, blending classic sophistication with contemporary versatility. Ideal for both print and digital use, Op-ed captures the essence of retro editorial design while remaining refined and highly legible for modern applications.
It is a variable typeface and also supports 5 separate font weights. I will be working to expand its capabilities like additional glyphs to support more languages and italics.
