6+ months on Contra, zero projects landed. What am I missing?

I want to ask the community an honest question.

For over six months, I've been consistently applying to projects and jobs here on Contra. So far, I haven't been selected for a single contract or project.

On paper, I feel like I've done everything right:

Multiple Expert badges

Contra Pro member

20+ Hire requests on my profile

Yet none of it has turned into actual work.

I'm not writing this to complain. I genuinely want to understand what's happening. Is this common for others too? Are clients mostly hiring through their own networks? Is there something about proposals, pricing, or profiles that makes the real difference?
