ShieldCommunity bridges the gap between local crises and immediate community action. It empowers neighborhoods to build resilience from the ground up by transforming passive residents into an active network of mutual aid, ensuring that essential resources food, shelter, jobs, and safety information are always within arm's reach.
Core Beliefs
👍Resilience is Local
I believe that the first and most effective line of defense during hardships or emergencies is the community itself. When systems are strained, neighbors are the ones closest to the problem and the solution.
👍 Dignity in Seeking Help
I believe access to necessities like food, shelter, and childcare should be seamless and stigma-free. By allowing users to post needs anonymously and filtering by "no questions asked" resources, we protect user dignity.
👍 Actionable Clarity Over Noise
In times of stress, information overload is paralyzing. We believe in providing a clear, real-time "Neighborhood Pulse"—distilling complex local data into glanceable, high-impact indicators (e.g., shelter capacity, active heat advisories) so users can make safer decisions instantly.
👍 Reciprocity Drives Community
I believe a healthy neighborhood is a two-way street. ShieldCommunity is built to balance both sides of mutual aid equally: giving users an intuitive way to request support, while seamlessly channeling local goodwill into direct, impactful volunteer actions.:

The "Help is close. So are your neighbors" framing is strong for this kind of app. Turning neighborhood resilience into something actionable at the hyperlocal level is a worthwhile design problem.

I’ve created a Local Secret project to share local places with everybody else, hidden jams that you can find only in there.
I used Claude to brainstorm ideas, prompts, tools to use before jumping into Figma. And I used free plan for it.
After above, I’ve prepared 9 prompts that should give me the final result in #Figmamake but in reality it took me 72 prompts and almost 13,000 tokens for AI.
I’ve also connected Supabase for backend memory and Github for saving the code. It’s incredible what you can do!
With next iteration, I’ll fix the uploading of photos, however your secrets can be already shared with everybody.
