Designing for CarPlay changed how I think about UX.
I started working on a CarPlay interface almost at the same time I started driving. I’ve only been behind the wheel for about three months.
That experience shaped the design more than I expected.
As a new driver, you quickly realize how little attention you have for screens. Even a small distraction matters.
It made one thing clear: drivers don’t explore interfaces. They react.
So instead of designing around features, I started designing around moments.
What does the driver need right now?
Usually the answer is simple: continue something, repeat something, or start the fastest action possible.
Designing for CarPlay isn’t adapting an app to a car screen. It’s respecting the driver’s attention.
How do you approach in-car UX?
