Spotify turning its logo into a disco ball for its anniversary restarted the whole “skeuomorphism vs flat design” debate.
So I wanted to test the idea on a real identity system.
This is Orion Project — a personal brand built around observation, navigation, and geometric structure. Instead of presenting the logo flat, I translated it into a physical object: a metallic 3D dog tag.
Built using Omma.build AI as part of the workflow: • Rapid 3D concept exploration • Material + lighting tests • Motion studies to see how the symbol behaves in space
What worked: AI made it incredibly fast to explore presentation-quality 3D directions that would normally take much longer to prototype.
What didn’t: Without strong creative direction, the outputs quickly start feeling like generic “AI gloss” instead of intentional branding.
I don’t think every logo needs dimensional treatment. But for identities rooted in atmosphere, symbolism, or physicality, 3D can communicate something flat systems can’t.
Curious where designers stand on this: Are 3D logos becoming genuinely useful again or are brands just rediscovering old aesthetics with new tools?
