Small shop websites usually look cheap for one reason: stock product photos that never match. So we took the photos out entirely. 🏺
Raiz is a concept site for a pottery shop in Guimarães, Portugal, selling only clay thrown by two potteries less than an hour away.
As you scroll, a cup is made in 3D: the clay is centred on the wheel, pulled up, dried for three days, fired overnight and dipped in glaze, with the foot left bare, as Barcelos potters do. The whole page changes with every step: the colour, the layout, the camera, and a number that counts the rpm, days and kiln temperature.
Every piece in the shop is rendered under the same studio light, so the catalogue looks like one photo session, even though there was never a camera.
It also does the dull, useful things a small shop needs: → sold-out pieces can be reserved from the next kiln firing, with the date worked out automatically → restaurants can configure a made-to-order set, with a live preview, a quantity discount and a ready-by date → the basket goes out as a single WhatsApp message
