Not all businesses failing in sales have marketing gaps. In most cases, the real issue started long before marketing even entered the picture. You can spend more on ads, optimize creatives, fine-tune targeting, and engineer a smarter marketing strategy but if your 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 doesn't make 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞, then just 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦.

Take a simple example: You are selling a product at $2 with a gross profit margin of 10%. This means you make only $0.20 of gross profit for every product that is purchased and delivered. Now, you decide to drive sales through paid advertising where the 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞. And then there’s your operating expense that hasn’t been accounted for. 

This is clearly not an advertising issue. It's a 𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬.

The same would happen selling a product that no one actually wants. Better creatives. More campaigns. Bigger ad budgets. None of it works if demand isn’t there. 

Before you are tempted to yell, "We just need to market this better!", ask yourself, "𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭?"

Examine your 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬, 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬, 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 and how it all fits together. If it does not all add up, maybe what you need is not a bigger marketing budget,  but a better business model that a great Marketing plan can actually execute. That, my friend, is the 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭.
