One thing I’ve been noticing while designing for AI-focused companies is how often visual intensity gets mistaken for technical sophistication.
A lot of interfaces try to communicate “advanced technology” through constant gradients, motion, and layered effects.
But after a certain threshold, the interface becomes harder to process, and credibility starts decreasing instead of increasing.
While refining Zevia, I started approaching the system differently:
Reduced visual pressure between sections
more controlled typography hierarchy
less aggressive contrast transitions
motion treated as pacing rather than decoration
Most of the recent work has been invisible adjustments rather than obvious redesigns.
Interesting how small structural changes completely alter how “serious” an interface feels.
Still refining the system before launch, and would genuinely value critiques from other designers/developers working in this space.
Especially around pacing, hierarchy, and areas where the balance still feels unresolved.
