Brief: The Iron Friend is a lost “Extraordinary Voyages” volume that never existed: seven engraved plates in which a dinosaur from the Past, a steam-age robot from the Present and a visitor from the Future share one jungle. I found its look in four public-domain wood engravings and visual references from Jules Verne’s era: Édouard Riou’s Iguanodon and Megalosaurus (Wellcome Collection), Léon Benett’s steam-powered elephant from The Steam House and a moon-voyage plate from Around the Moon by Bayard and de Neuville (both Public Domain Image Archive), and Georges Méliès’ Selenite moon-creature drawing from Le Voyage dans la Lune (OONA 13, sourced from Wikimedia Commons). Each engraving stands for one age or visual influence, and together they became one custom Recraft V4 Style that carries the whole story. With it I sent a tin-plate robot, a flying saucer and a ray-gun that cannot hurt a machine into a world no Victorian engraver ever imagined. The story needs no words inside the images: the Past fell, the Future failed, the Present stood.
