3 reasons your React app feels slow (and how I fix them)
Most "slow React app" complaints come down to 3 things:
1. 𝐔𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐫𝐞-𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 Components re-rendering when their props/state haven't actually changed. Fix: React.memo, useMemo, useCallback — but only where it actually matters, not everywhere.
2. 𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐭 Importing entire libraries for one function. Fix: tree-shaking, dynamic imports, and checking your bundle with tools like webpack-bundle-analyzer.
3. 𝐁𝐚𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 Fetching data on every render, or waterfalling requests instead of running them in parallel. Fix: React Query/SWR for caching, Promise.all for parallel requests.
I've fixed these exact issues on ecommerce and admin dashboard projects — sometimes cutting load time by 30-40% with just these three changes.
What's the most common performance issue you've run into?
