What E-E-A-T means and why it affects your website
E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. It is the framework Google uses to evaluate whether a website is worth surfacing in search results.
It is not a plugin you install or a score you can check. It is a set of signals your website either communicates or doesn't.
Experience means your site shows evidence that you have actually done the work: case studies, project details, specific outcomes. Expertise means the content on your site demonstrates real knowledge of your field, not generic information anyone could write. Authoritativeness means other credible sources reference or link to you. Trustworthiness means your site is secure, accurate, and transparent about who you are and how to reach you.
For a small business, the most actionable of these is trustworthiness. A site without an SSL certificate, a vague about page, no physical location or contact information, and no evidence of real work sends signals that search engines weigh negatively, even if your business is completely legitimate.
The good news is that most E-E-A-T improvements are not technical. They are content and structure decisions. Knowing what signals are missing is the first step.
