I found a product page that had been live for 8 months and had never once shown up in Google
Not a ranking problem
A discovery problem
Google didn't even know the page existed
Here's what was actually going on:
1. THE DISCOVERY
Checked Search Console for the URL directly
Zero impressions, zero clicks, completely absent from the index
The page itself was fine, good title, good description, decent content
2. THE REAL CAUSE:
Google finds new pages by following links from pages it already knows
This product wasn't in any collection
Wasn't in the navigation menu
Wasn't linked from any other product as a related item
It existed on the store, but nothing on the store pointed to it
3. WHY THIS HAPPENS MORE THAN PEOPLE REALIZE:
Products get created directly and forgotten from collection assignment
Seasonal items get pulled from the menu after launch and never reconnected
A store can have dozens of these orphan pages sitting completely invisible without a single error message anywhere
4. THE FIX
Added the product to a relevant collection
Linked it from two related products using the theme's recommendation block
Submitted the URL directly through Search Console to speed up first discovery
THE RESULT:
Page got crawled and indexed within days
Started pulling in search impressions it had never gotten in 8 months of existing
Here's the part worth remembering:
👉 A broken page throws an error you can see
👉 An orphan page throws nothing
👉 It just sits there quietly costing you traffic while looking completely normal in your admin
👉 Go check your last 5 products created
If you can't find a menu, collection, or related product link pointing to each one, you've probably found a page Google has never seen
