SEO Isn’t Dying. It’s Evolving.
Over the past few months, I’ve been studying how brands are discovered inside ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Along the way, one client increased their AI mentions by 340%, reinforcing something I’ve become convinced of:
SEO isn’t dying. It’s evolving.
For more than two decades, SEO has been the foundation of online visibility. That hasn’t changed. If anything, AI makes strong SEO even more valuable because large language models don’t invent answers—they rely on trusted websites, authoritative brands, structured data, third-party citations, reviews and countless trust signals that strong SEO has helped build for years.
What has changed is how people search.
Instead of typing keywords into Google, more people are asking questions like:
“What’s the best solar company near me?”
“Which law firm should I hire?”
“What’s the best protein supplement?”
Instead of scrolling through pages of results, they’re expecting one trusted recommendation.
That’s where AI Search Optimization (AEO/GEO) comes in.
Not as a replacement for SEO.
As the next layer of it.
Think about it this way:
SEO helps search engines understand your website.
AI Search Optimization helps AI models understand, trust, and recommend your brand.
The businesses that will lead over the next five years won’t choose between SEO and AI Search.
They’ll build a strategy that embraces both.
I genuinely believe we’re witnessing one of the biggest shifts in digital discovery since Google transformed search.
What’s your take?
Do you see AI assistants becoming a major acquisition channel over the next five years, or do you believe Google will remain the dominant way people discover businesses?
