I always give a client at least two options, whatever the task. Each one packs in as many small tweaks as possible: color, size, count, or position of elements. So the client can either pick a finished version, or mix and match by telling me which element they like from each. Example on an app icon below. Which one do you prefer?

Both look great. Will pick 01, looks warmer and a change from the generic blues

01 for me, the pink and gold combo feels warmer and more distinct in a crowded app store grid. The blue version reads a bit generic, could pass for a dozen other sleep or baby apps. Do clients usually go with your pick or their own gut instinct?

Agree, 01 was my pick too
On clients: I always lead with a recommendation, but the two options let them trust their gut too. Usually ends up a mix of both, and that's the point, they own the final call

02 for me, the sleepy zzz's tell the whole story of the app in one glance without needing the crescent moon as a crutch. Giving clients options based on swappable elements like that seems way more efficient than starting from scratch each round, how many rounds of tweaks does that approach usually save you?

02 has a strong case, the zzz's do a lot of narrative work on their own. And you nailed why I work this way. Front-loading the variation into one round means the client reacts to specifics instead of vague vibes, so we usually converge in one or two rounds instead of four or five. Saves everyone the back and forth :)

This deserves more than just liking, this deserves to be featured! šŸ† Giving clients options is always smart. The subtle lighting tweaks on version 01 would translate beautifully into a high-end web landing page hero section.

Really appreciate the support! The response to this has been so encouraging that I’m now seriously considering posting the full case study. Stay tuned šŸ™Œ
