Streaming doesn't have to begin and end with a webcam layered on top of content. Likewise, audiences shouldn't be limited to interacting with a creator through chat messages and alerts alone. In the past, these limitations were largely defined by the complexity of development and the capabilities of available tools. Today, I believe the biggest challenge is no longer technical—it's creative. When it comes to livestreaming, it's about direction. It's about staging an experience. With that in mind, I'd like to present a proof of concept for my application, Director's Kapp—a tool designed for everyone on both sides of the screen. The core idea is simple: give creators the freedom to direct their broadcasts as if they were directing a performance. Let them immerse viewers in the world they're building, orchestrate dynamic scene transitions, prepare interactive scenarios, and ultimately give the audience opportunities to become part of the show rather than merely watch it. My goal is to shorten the distance between the broadcaster and the audience. One of the concepts explored in this prototype is the Observers' Room—a shared space that acts as a bridge between the livestream itself and everything happening around it. We see silhouettes gathered behind the scenes: familiar regulars, random visitors, moderators making sure everything runs smoothly. Only the director's chair remains empty. It could belong to the streamer. It could belong to someone from chat. Or perhaps to the collective decision of the audience. Going forward, I want to build Director's Kapp around a set of expressive visual tools that make broadcasts feel more alive, immersive, and cinematic. A little more visual feedback. A touch of theater. Then, gradually, expand the system with more interactions and creative possibilities. This video showcases the current proof of concept created entirely in @rive_app, where I've prototyped and visualized several different types of live events: • Real-time ability activation with additional visual effects. • Viewers throwing tomatoes at the screen through Twitch chat commands. • The Observers' Room, an additional application state that serves as the central hub connecting the audience, the broadcast itself, and chat messages—represented as speech bubbles that blend naturally into conversations between the silhouettes. The project was built using Data Binding, Nested Artboards (Stateful Components), State Machine Layering, and advanced rigging techniques. Rendering is powered by Rive Runtime Web (JavaScript) with the WebGL2 renderer, while communication with Twitch and OBS is handled through Python and WebSockets. AI was used to put together the backend. The prototype uses League of Legends as its demonstration environment—a game rich with gameplay events, lore, and memorable characters, while also providing a wide range of events that can be tracked and transformed into interactive broadcast experiences.
