I created “Jerry’s Big Day of Learning,” a colorful 3D children’s storybook project designed for young readers ages 4–6. The story follows Jerry, a curious and cheerful six-year-old boy, through everyday experiences that teach valuable lessons about school, kindness, teamwork, sharing, responsibility, and learning.
Looks great. Clean design for kids
For ages 4 to 6 the whole book rides on Jerry's face reading clearly at a glance, since kids track emotion before they track words. Holding his proportions and expressions consistent across every scene is the hard part, and you have kept that steady here. Did you lock a character sheet before building the pages?
Thank you! I’m glad you noticed the consistency. I created a character reference sheet first and used it as the visual guide throughout the illustrations. I wanted to make sure Jerry’s proportions, facial features, expressions, clothing, and overall identity stayed consistent from scene to scene.

1. Imperfect Alignment
A slightly off-grid element, a hand-drawn line, a wobble in the kerning, perfection reads as generated small deviations read as made.
2. Texture Over Gloss
Paper grain, embossing, ink bleed, film grain, anything that shows a physical process signals a human hand was involved, even in a digital file.
3. Type that has a flaw, fingerprint
A quirky ligature, a hand-lettered word mixed with a clean grotesk, a font with visible ink traps, one imperfect detail does more than a whole “perfect” typeface.
4. Photography of real skin, real light, real mess
Unretouched pores, natural shadows, a slightly awkward pose, over-smoothed images are the fastest way to make a brand feel synthetic.
5.Copy that sounds like a person, not a press release.
Contractions, specific details, a little humor, the words are part of the design system too, and stiff copy undoes every warm visual choice.

For this homeware brand, the patterns aren't just decoration. Drawn by hand with a pencil texture, inspired by wood grain, sand, and natural fiber, then digitized into a system that scales without losing that organic quality.
When a brand is born to turn everyday objects into rituals, the identity has to FEEL that way too. Not just look it.
