The challenge was to address a genuine small business pain point by designing an intuitive UX for both the owner and the client. I decided to tackle the friction of complicated scheduling by creating a custom booking layer for a fictional Sonoma Valley solo photographer, Mara Ellery.
Mara’s calendar follows strict, dynamic rules: she only shoots portraits in the changing final hour before sunset, weddings occupy her entire day, and sessions are not confirmed until both the deposit and signed agreement are received. Her main pain point? Her evenings were consumed by manual text threads—chasing deposits, checking availability, and rescheduling due to rain.
For the client, the new UX is seamless: From their phone, they select a session, view Mara’s available dates and golden-hour light windows, and reserve a spot for 72 hours with only basic contact info. A private link on the studio’s page smoothly handles the deposit and the contract.
For the owner, the UX is entirely hands-off: the system takes over follow-ups. It automatically sends reminders for missing steps, requests one-tap confirmations the day before, offers new light windows when the weather changes, and releases canceled dates to the next couple on the waitlist.
The result? Mara now handles everything from a single morning dashboard. Across the demo’s month, 41 messages were sent automatically. She only needed to type 3. (Built in Lovable with Lovable Cloud and Stripe Sandbox. All messaging is simulated on-screen; nothing leaves the demo.)
