These 3 Projects will Actually Get you Hired!
One thing i notice, why most people fill their portfolio section with clones.
Another Netflix clone. Another Todo app. Another e-commerce clone.
These prove you can follow a tutorial. They don’t prove you can build something a business would pay for.
Instead, build AI-powered products that solve real problems.
Here are 3 projects I’d build, if i start over on Jobs these days:
1. Build an AI Agent You can explore with AI and once you understand few concepts in AI like context window, MCP, agents, fine tuning, workflows, RAG, you can create products of almost any kind.
For example, build a coding AI Agent that can read your code, make changes and managing context and holding their own set of skills. 
2. Build a Full SaaS Product Most people build only frontend designs and call them projects, real products begin from a design or even they don’t require a design at first, a SaaS product enables you to think like a real engineer instead of just a frontend developer. Build a complete frontend, backend, LLM and database pipeline and create something impactful end-to-end.
3. Build a Real-Time Collaborative Platform Think about GitHub, Slack, Zoho, these are just few examples of real-time collaboration platforms that exists in modern coding space and these are used by real software development companies in order to build teams, work together, meetings and manage their day to day tasks etc. The goal is not cloning a system, the goal is to create meaningful applications. And there is plenty of room in this niche. So, how about building a mini version of one by ourselves and add it to our portfolio, it will have a great positive impact on the minds of our recruiters right!
Notice the difference?
You’re not just showing React, Node.js or Python.
You’re showing that you can:
→ Design a real product → Build scalable web applications → Integrate LLMs and AI agents → Work with APIs, databases and real data → Solve actual business problems
Don’t build projects just to fill your GitHub.
Build products that make someone say: "We could actually use this."
That’s the kind of portfolio that gets attention.
